Weekend Round-Up: Wild animals

Whew! What a weekend! It all started innocuously enough. We had a casual Cinco de Mayo fish taco dinner with our friends Matt and Amber on Friday night. They live in a tall building on Lombard Street and have a gorgeous view of Alcatraz and the bridge.

On Saturday morning, we woke up to clouds and cold wind and decided to sleep in a bit. After a quick errand to the framing shop and breakfast, we met up with Matt and Amber again. Together, we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge to sunny Sausalito for a bay kayaking trip. The folks at Sea Trek were great and we had a wonderful time paddling around the harbors looking at houseboats and incredibly smelly seals. After an hour and a half, we turned in our boats and took our soaking-wet-selves to Tiburon for margaritas and guacamole. Sam’s Cafe is apparently the place to see and be seen. The patio was the society equivalent of a serengeti watering hole and the perfect place to people watch.

Around 5:00, we dashed back to the city to change into red and black for our big Saturday night out. Our friend Brian was celebrating his 31st birthday with 31 guests at Supperclub. This club features beds instead of tables, a five course dinner and bizarre performance art. Did you ever see that episode of Southpark with the manatees? The performances were so random that we figured they must have been chosen in the manatee tank. We’re talking mummies, crash test dummies, vaudeville, fake cocaine, Spanish opera drag queens, fallen angels swinging from the ceiling, etc. It was a great time and the perfect venue for Brian!

On Sunday, the sunny and gorgeous weather got us out of bed and on the tandem bike fairly early. We rode all the way to the Legion of Honor (about 5 miles) for a picnic in the park and visit to the museum. Check out this photo of our French-style picnic supplies on the bike. On the way home, one of our derailers broke so we pedaled down to Valencia Cyclery to get it fixed. We finally returned home at 4:00 and spent the rest of the night relaxing and eating delicious homemade burritos (sour cream!).

Jean: How’d Wildflower go? 3 hours and 22 minutes seems pretty fast! Did Trent really come in 17th at exactly 1 hour?!

Update: Brian just sent over some photos from Supperclub. Here’s a cute one of Brian and me. I also like this one of Rob and me. Yes, I did rock sunglasses inside a dark club. I’m just awesome like that. And no, I don’t have giant hands.
