High tea in San Francisco?

I’m throwing a spa day this weekend for a friend who is getting married in December. We’re going to pedicures at 12:30 and then I want to do high tea together somewhere downtown. Here are some of the choices:

Garden Court Tea at the Palace – You have to love the feminine atmosphere of that room.

The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus – Kind of touristy? But it could still be pretty fun.

Ritz Carlton Lobby Lounge – I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Ritz in San Francisco.

Any recommendations? Suggestions?

Myself and sonm girlfriends started doing this as a yearly thing last December. Our inaugural tea was a the Ritz. It was lovely. I love Lovejoys even more but it is too far from town and probably too late to get a res for you.

This year we are still deciding where to try from this list:

    The Ritz (again)
    The Fairmont
    The Palace
    Neiman Marcus
    King George Hotel
    Katia’s
    Lovejoy’s

I do have to be slightly pedantic (excuse me) and point out that you are probably actually looking for ‘Afternoon tea’. ‘High tea’ is something different – actually the main evening meal of common people in bygone days, served at around 5-6pm more commonly just called ‘tea’ these days. I was brought up eating my main evening meal as ‘tea’ at teatime, but these days wouldn’t dream of it. I have become middleclass enough to appreciate the meaning of a good (late) ‘dinner’ instead.

PS – LOVED your dressing for the crab season the other day.

Very educational comment! I think we’re going to try the Palace this weekend. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
