Movie Review: Blood Diamond

Movie Review: Blood Diamond

Rob and I went to see Blood Diamond last night after work. A friend of a friend works at the Dolby Sound Lab offices down the street and we had free tickets to see it in their private screening theater. We have another invite to watch The Holiday tonight, but our laundry situation at home is getting dire and we may have to pass.

Anyway, I was pretty impressed with Blood Diamond. They filmed the whole think on location in Africa. It’s awfully gory in many places and sort of flip-flopped between an action film and a preachy documentary, but overall it did a good job of conveying the message. I certainly left feeling smug about my commitment to only buying estate diamonds. Plus, Leonardo DiCaprio was really amazing in it. He’s certainly changed his look a lot since the Titanic (ick) days.

If you have boxes full of diamond jewelry wrapped under your tree, you might want to skip this movie until after Christmas. The guilt could be overwhelming. If you don’t, go see it!
