Party Recipe: Gingerbread House Decorating

Jill hosted the club last night for the second annual holiday gingerbread house decorating party. She lives in a gorgeous old Victorian above Castro with high ceilings and lots of molding. Along with a nine foot tree in the living room, Jill had decorated and prepared the rest of the house beautifully (I forgot my camera, so sad!).

After an hour of appetizers and wine, we all headed to the dinning room to start on our projects. Jill had made super icing ahead of time and doled it out in individual ramekins. The table was loaded with candy, graham crackers and cardboard for the bases. As predicted, I ate enough candy to put myself in the hospital while working on my own creation.

Instead of a standard house, I decided to make a gingerbread fish tank for Rob this year! It was complete with Swedish fish, spice drop coral, sweet tart bubbles and Necco wafer goldfish. Pretty cute, if I say so myself. I’ll try to take a photo tonight before Rob starts eating it 🙂

One member, Allison, was a real pro and jumped in to help some of the struggling builders after she finished her perfect San Francisco Victorian gingerbread house! Once we were all frosted and candy coated, Jill snapped a photo of us with our final creations and we bundled up to head home around 10. This is becoming such a fun annual tradition!
