Rob and I met up with a few friends last night to see Jersey Boys at the Curran Theater downtown. This musical depicts the rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the group that produced “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and 25 other hits. Ikon arranged for our tickets and, once again, they were comically…

Today’s advent calendar photo was taken when I was riding on a real-live bus in San Francisco last weekend. How’s that for photographic skills?! This landmark of the San Francisco arts scene on Van Ness is decorated for the holidays with at least a dozen giant glittering Christmas trees. I think there were a few…

Culinaire is a thing of beauty. This antique store in San Francisco’s ferry building carries the best of every thing related to cooking, wine and the kitchen. Everywhere you look in this store, it’s another absolutely perfect item. Over here, the most amazing copper pot…over there, the set of oyster forks you never knew you…

Today’s advent calendar photo isn’t technically from San Francisco. In fact, it was taken a little further south on the peninsula and just a little more than 24 years ago. While looking for baby pictures of my sister to post on her birthday at the end of November, I found this holiday snapshot of her…

Kati Kim and her two young daughters were rescued yesterday afternoon after having been stranded in the Oregon forest for nine days. Kati owns a wonderful boutique just a few blocks from our apartment and I’ve been following the story since it was first reported. James Kim is still missing after hiking out to find…

Another gorgeous weekend in the city! Rob had to go to work on Saturday morning so I spent some time cleaning the house, visiting the library and running errands. It seemed like every victorian in our neighborhood was being decorated with wreaths and garlands. You could almost hear the silver bells. When Rob came home…

Today’s advent calendar image brings together a typography, charity and tradition. Three of my favorite things! Anyone in San Francisco should immediately recognize the name of this urban Christmas institution. Click on the #4 box to see what I’m talking about! Once you are done, you can read more about this important program online here…

At only the first of December, I’m not feeling quite ready for a Christmas tree and all the trimmings. But it does seem right to deck the hall just a bit. Last night I did some decorating with ribbons to make the house look festive. I tied two big red bows around the vintage gourd…

Last year, I ran an online advent calendar with random holiday photos. This year, I’m making the advent calendar myself with festive pictures of San Francisco that I’ll take and post all month long. Click on the #1 box to see today’s image of the city. Happy first day of December!
