The Baxter is a film about the “other guy;” the Mr. Wrong who always ends up dumped so the girl can reconnected with her true love. Elliot is a nice-guy catalyst for other people’s “happily ever after” in this quirky independent movie that Rob and I rented last night. Michael Showalter is perfect as Elliot,…

Nothing is more fall that a big glass of freshly pressed apple cider. In San Luis Obispo, fall was celebrated with jugs of thick apple cider from Gopher Glen Farms in See Canyon. Sadly, there aren’t any apple orchards in the city. But Safeway has been carrying this kind of homestyle apple cider for the…

My poor old white damask tablecloth was never that nice. It doesn’t have a great hem and the corners tend to curl up. Plus, it has been through far too many parties and isn’t as white as it used to be! For it’s replacement I am adding a white hotel tablecloth (70×126) to my birthday…

One of my favorite things is coming up with the perfect outfit for a given activity or event. You name it, I will find the exact right thing that should be worn to it (albeit in my own funny way)! This fits in perfectly with my new archery hobby: Cashmere cardigan – I really am…

Regardless of your feelings about Urban Outfitters (did they unleash the hipster 80’s scourge upon us?), you have to admit they have some pretty genius graphic designers. This be-booted bird sketch just arrived in an email from Urban Outfitters promoting free shipping on boots. If you strip away all that copy, the result sketch is…

Bloomingdale’s opened yesterday at the new Westfield Centre in downtown San Francisco. I haven’t visited yet, but I expect it to be a thoroughly magical experience when I get around to it. While I am there, I should try on this dress. The whole outfit actually is just lovely. The colors on the dress are…

Crane & Co. just launched this new series of matching stationary and pen sets. For $39 you get a set of 20 note cards and envelopes with a matching ballpoint pen. Isn’t that a great idea for a hostess gift? The cards come in yellow, aqua, teal, navy and pink online here.

Think of the possibilities! Is there anything more hopeful than a box of 48 colored pencils waiting to be sharpened? I love this collection from Prismacolor largely because the pencils come in a wood case rather than a tin. I like to take colored pencils with me when I travel and the tins are always…
