Wedding Wednesday: White on White
One idea for the invitation is to run the letterpress design with no ink, so the pattern will just be imprinted deeply in the paper with no color. Here is an example.
I did a quick mock-up of this last night using a dover peony clip art I found and oak leaves I had from a previous design. The peony would be imprinted lines only and the oak leaves would be a full stamp. It’s not perfect, but it is a pretty good start. Click on the photo to enlarge if you’d like.
The challenge is how to incorporate this all ivory design to match the yellow stage design I’m working on for the RSVP and save the date notes. Yellow envelope? Yellow ribbon tied around the invitation? Yellow border around the frame of the invite?

I dont have any design skills, but following your theme of Wedding Wednesdays, my idea for your wedding would be to exchange Jeanine Payer rings as wedding gifts…I dont mean your formal rings, just rings you could wear casually on the weekend or whatever…and have them engraved with personalized favorite quotes. My favorite for a wedding is from Dante Aligheri, “Remember tonight, for it is the beginning of always”.
Just a romantic wedding/San Francisco idea.
I like the yellow ribbon idea and the yellow envelope. Lovely idea.
Okay, just an idea: I think you should incorporate yellow into your invitations, because people might get the idea that the wedding and reception will incorporate yellow, and then dress accordingly. Just a thought. You would never want to tell them what to wear, of course, but if I got an invitation like that I would automatically think about wearing something that would look good in that backdrop (and hence your pictures might look better, too).
Or white for the image but yellow for the ink? It would be so fresh and different…?
I really like it. We embossed a tree on our invitations, and I like the simplicity of the colorless image. I also like the idea of yellow ribbon or yellow card. What about doing your names in yellow? We did just our names in the Jane Austen font to make then stand out.
I agree with Kate F – I love the idea of the blind embossing of the floral design and a punchy yellow for the text. Or a soft yellow. Definitely fresh, different and eye-catching!
I really like the idea of yellow envelopes. I don’t know about you, but I love getting fun colored envelopes in the mail and I think they would tie in the yellow perfectly. This way you aren’t taking away from the design you love on the invites and it incorporates your yellow AND makes everyone receiving one extremely happy. I mean how could they not be happy when they get a cheery yellow envelope in the mail?!
I like the idea of yellow envelopes — or even better, an ivory envelope with yellow on the inside! I don’t know where you get them, but I’ve definitely seen envelopes where the inside is a different (usually glossy) color.
Also, I know it’s just a mockup, but you spelled “eight” as “eitght” 🙂
I think the white-on-white for the flower design is great, and I like the bright-yellow-text and yellow-envelope-lining suggested by other people, too.
A lot of invitations nowadays seem to come with a sheet of vellum or thin translucent paper of some sort with them in the envelope as an overlay. Could you do that with yellow?
what about a white envelope with a pretty yellow paper lining, i think papersource has instructions on how to do the lining. You could couple that with a yellow stamp on the outside, I love the idea of mostly white with just a few yellow accents.

I for sure agree with all the clever commenters that suggested punchy yellow ink for the text, yellow for the envelopes (maybe a white wax seal? That would be really cute, but I have no idea how practical it would be). I think it would be really modern and fresh, but still romantic (I LOVE the embossed/sunken etching-like peonies), and just beautiful and pleasing. God, your wedding is going to be so lovely, Emily!
if you had your envelopes converted, you could have the interior a yellow and white pattern, which could be very delicate and dear, then use a yellow ribbon around the invite (i know, it’s expensive, but it would look amazing). i would also suggest using yellow ink on your type and increasing the leading around your names.
i would probably rethink combining the peony with the oak leaves, their illustration styles are very divergent…
