All About the Job Hunt
This last month was a real whirlwind. Change, especially career change, has a way of just uprooting your life entirely. A few of you have asked for details about the job change. Here are some notes:
I was fortunate to have a fairly easy time with the job search – surprising in this economy. The whole process took about four weeks. I polished up my resume with the help of some friends, networked, and found a few listings on Craigslist. Out of a dozen or so serious applications, I found four good leads. A couple rounds of interviews, some tough choices…I landed what I think is going to be an amazing new career.
It all sounds so simple, but I certainly had a greek chorus of stress and fear on hand. Luckily, at this point in my career I know that I’m very good at what I do. That certainty was so, so helpful.
I’m taking a leap. Leaving behind the personal finance industry where I had become very comfortable and established for the past near-decade. Joining the booming electronic health records industry. Something entirely new. I’m excited!
“Always, always, always, always, always do what you are afraid to do… Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain… Do the thing and you will have the power.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Congratulations on your new journey!
Congratulations. This has been my theme for a couple of weeks now. Tough but necessary to take some risks.
Can you elaborate a little more on the job? I am going to need to go back to work soon and leave the babes. Makes me sad but I know I will still be mom, home or not.
Thanks.
Are you working at a hospital?
Best of Luck to you Em! I'm sure you made a great choice. 🙂
Not with a hospital, the company makes the program that doctors use to enter and manage patient records.
Good for you Emily! I took a leap too and quit my very comfortable job as a grants director at a nonprofit foundation and am now, as of yesterday, a full time artist! So far so good! Love a good leap of faith!
AWESOME!
I knew I needed to leave my old job and get a new one when the thought of changing freaked me out.
I never want to not do something because I'm afraid.
FYI I linked to this post yesterday. Thanks for the thoughts.
Congratulations! I love the quote you shared. I feel inspired!
