Wedding Wednesday: Bridal Party
Now that we’ve decided to go for navy bridesmaid dresses instead of yellow, that part is a lot easier. How to tie it all together for a unified look? Time to play paper-doll.
Dress – One option from J.Crew.
Dress – Another, this may be too “beachy.”
Dress – This is my favorite, but it isn’t very party oriented.
My Dress – This image is from Lulu’s vintage. I think my great grandmother’s dress is prettier than this, lucky me!
Suit – This is tricky! Navy?
Suit – Khaki? Nah, doesn’t go well with the vintage lace.
Suit – Light brown? I think it would be better a little darker.
Ties – Yellow, I need to find exactly the right color.

Love the first dress. Good choice going with navy.
I’m delurking to comment on the bridesmaid dress thing. I just got married in San Francisco on April 13, so have been following your Wedding Wednesday posts with great interest! Anyway, my bridesmaids wore the Sophia dresses in vintage blue (with red shoes), and it looked GREAT, on two very different body types. Love your blog by the way. I now live in LA after many years living in SF, and your blog makes me feel as if I’m getting a regular little taste of my former life there!
Love the mix of dresses, to suit each bridesmaid’s style/bodytype. And love the navy suit.
Hi Denise! Glad you’re delurking! Send a photo of the dresses in action once you get them. I’d love to hear more about your SF wedding.
I like the navy suit best. I think it will look great with a yellow tie.
I love all the dresses with those yellow flowers, and I like all the suits, too! I have a minor crush on your wedding…
Dress #1 is a definite
GOOD NEWS: love the navy!
BAD NEWS: was on the verge of linking u to the BM dresses i picked after reading this post, then realized that the dress that has been purchased by only 1/2 of my bridesmaids has been discontinued.
a sad, but trivial night.
can someone give me a boost of reality?
I say let the girls pick their own style. I would hate your first choice on me, for example, and feel frumpy. But you would love it!
As for the suits, I think Navy would nice (though potentally not be a exact match) or grey.
this is however freaking me out. We’re getting married in the bay area August of 2009, and I’m still on the hunt for a vintage type lace dress (I’ll probably get it made, lucky you indeed) and I’m already leaning hard towards J Crew dresses in navy, and the groom is wearing a navy or grey suit. Thank GOODNESS yellow isn’t our accent color 😉
Excellent taste, you!
I love the first dress. We’re actually using the Lyndsey dress from JCrew in navy. I got them last summer and the girls LOVE them. I’m so excited for them. We’re using pink as an accent color but yellow was our second choice! I personally would do navy or tan suits. I think the gray might be too “banker”.
I like the khaki/brown option for suits, and you might check out Vineyard Vines for nice yellow ties! They have some of the cutest patterns, if you’re up for it. We were married this past October, and my b-maids had JCrew dresses that they loved in geranium. Both of the styles are discontinued, but the really enjoyed having a bit of a choice!.
Very classy Miss Em. I actually like all of those dresses…
Love the Navy dresses and suits, I wish there was something yellow you could add to the dresses to go with the yellow ties, more than the flowers…
Molly made the comment I was going to make! I think if you do one of the simpler dresses (like the 3rd one) you should add a little color with something around the waste or maybe edged on the hem of the dress.
The bridesmaids in my wedding ( my two sisters and one of my SIL) wore navy dresses like number 3. It was a dress they they have actually worn again at other funtions.
Love the bridal dress.
For my wedding last May I chose JCrew dresses and was very happy. I chose the fabric (silk faile) and color (peacock blue) and the girls chose the style of dress, which gave them the option of price and style to fit their figures. I had a great experience working with JCrew and their dress consultant line and the girls said the dresses arrived beautifully packaged.
For the guys– could you go with what my husband calls the “Easter outfit?” Khaki pants and a navy blazer?

The third dress… closest to the bride. I actually chose to wear as my mother’s maid of honor… long story. It was actually a big wedding – on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan (very beach/J Crew style all around). Very beautiful. Anyway, the dress was J Crew (a little different I think – A line) and navy as well. She had blue and white flowers and it was amazing. So yeah, my point, that’s a great dress. Very flattering to all body types and great for later use. Very versatile.
I know what else I was thinking… the groomsmen wore navy blazers and khaki pants. It looked very preppy, in a good way – timeless. They all bought the same khakis and navy blazers – who doesn’t need that in their wardrobe… and not too far off from renting an ugly tux.
i wore the first dress (in brown) for Beths wedding in SF last Oct 🙂
all the bridesmaids loved it! just one tip if you go with that one, get people to order 1 size up from what they typically wear in jcrew (or order both and return one) as the band is a bit tight fitting. i ended up returning mine and ordering the next size up and was happy to have the breathing room.
