What to Wear: Not Black

What to Wear: Not Black

Being a raven haired beauty has one downside: you can’t wear black! I tried on my old favorite black ballet tee this morning only to see a goth staring back at me in the mirror. And my black wool coat? It’s a goner. I need to think fast about my alternatives:

  • Turtleneck – This white cashmere blend turtleneck arrived right when I got home from the salon. Perfect timing! And I love the extra length at the bottom.
  • Scarf – Jewel tones are my new best friend. This cashmere scarf is on clearance.
  • Coat – Pretty cute cropped in Navy.
  • Skirt – Great pockets on this tweed skirt from Nordstrom for only $48.
  • Boots – I’m in love with the low heel and stylish cut of these J. Crew boots.
  • Purse – Now on super, super sale at Zappos. I adore this bag and get compliments on it all the time.

Whew! That was tough.

i don’t agree you can’t wear black if you have dark hair. that is the color that i wear most frequently.

You’ll get used to wearing black, don’t worry…. But for now, try putting something between your face and the black piece of clothing. A v-neck or scoop-neck with a necklace in a lighter color (pearls, silver, filigree gold) does a nice job of breaking up the stark contrast between your clothing and your skin tone.

But you are tan, Nicole, and you always look fabulous. Imagine this pale twiggy dressed all in black!

i love those jcrew boots! i tried them on but sadly jcrew thinks that just because people have big feet (size 10) they must also have big ankles and big calves 🙁 the foot part was so cute but the rest looked like a funny slouchy boot.

I hate that! I have tiny, tiny calves (dad’s genes) and have a hard time finding boots too. It is best to go vintage!

Relax…. redheads have unhealthy pale skin tone as is. Black hair just made it a little more noticeable. Plus… you always look great in all the pix you post… I am sure black does not look bad on you. Becides… garth’s alter ego is very very cute. 🙂

The pale skin and dark hair….

This is the best you’ve looked… in my humble opinion that is 🙂
