When the registry has run down and you are not…
Inspired: Grand Hotel
Summer has officially arrived in San Francisco, right on schedule. It’s a sweltering 75 degrees out today.
Now that it’s summer, I’m all about sweet honeydew, iced tea, a juicy read and resort daydreams. My latest resort obsession is the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. Opened in 1887, it seems like just the place for me. I’ll take my pimm’s cup out on the rocking chair veranda please.

My mom just stayed there last weekend, as a matter of fact. It’s quite lovely really. I grew up in MI and Mackinac Island is beautiful… and no cars allowed.
I worked there, lived in the pool house and made wedding bouquets and tended to the geraniums on the porch for a summer. I want to go back as a guest. It’s like a dreamland.
My husband and I went there for our 1st anniversary in 1996. It is amazing. You need to watch Somewhere in Time, they filmed it there. Your antique wedding dress would look amazing on you, standing on the front porch.
Wow! Working there must have been so fun!
Oh, I love Mackinac Island!!! Buy an ice cream cone after a long bike ride on a vintage cruiser and take a nap on some of that lovely grass and you are golden!
I live in the Chicagoland area and we would go to Mackinac every now and again as we were growing up. beautiful place.
