Winter in August
I’m at the breaking point with this weather. It’s been foggy, cold and miserable the past three days and I’m starting to feel like it really is winter. I wore a gray turtleneck yesterday, darn it.
If I’m going to embrace winter, I may as well do it 100%. How about a hearty lamb stew for dinner? A wool scarf? And on the radio, definitely Sara Gazarek. This soothing jazz singer was on the latest Paste CD. A quick visit to her website reveals that she’s adorable and just like someone I’d very much like to be friends with.

Hi Emily – I love your blog and thought it was about time I introduced myself and told you so. It is another grey August day in Vancouver too and it feels so much more acceptable now I am listening to Sara Gazarek, I could almost be wrapped up in a blanket drinking hot chocolate! Thanks for making my morning!
Louise
I am in a sweltering 106 degree day in Phoenix.
Wanna trade?
Come for a visit to Utah. It’s hot, with blue sky and sunshine enough that my poor little girl got the worst sunburn at a birthday party the other day… we missed a spot with the sunscreen on one shoulder. 🙁
Holy geeze.. there is a heat index point of over 100 degrees here in NC. You guys should come visit. Sundresses are mandatory, all my sweaters are in storage!
I thought I was ready for fall and then I remembered it has pretty much been fall here in Portland all summer. I guess I should just embrace it.
Isn’t it horrible?? My 4 year old asks me every morning, ‘Mom, is it going to be sunny -today-? I hate the fog! I want it to be hot and sunny!’ The poor thing attends preschool near the ocean, so she is really in the thick of it all day long. The summer here always makes me want to move elsewhere.
It is a sweltering near 100 degree day (14 with the”heat index”) on the eastern shore of Virginia. I would take cold, foggy, and rainy over this any day! Janet
Last week I decided to pretend that it’s fall – my favourite season anyway – and I’ve been much happier for it!
i wish it were fall 6 months out of 12. houston was hot and muggy, boston is marginally less so. i can’t wait to wear my sweaters and boots again! it’s no fun showering twice a day.
Oh, sweetie, it is 106 here in Arkansas. No need to wear makeup as it just melts off your face within the hour. (I have been pretending I live on the sun.) Grass is always greener, eh?
