    I love the look and idea of chalkboard walls, but I can't stand how chalk feels, and the smell of the dust, and how messy they are … such a shame.

    I love her apartment, that wall especially!
    And actually they make chalk markers now, they are filled with a liquid type chalk so there is no dust. Even when the writing dries. When you want to erase you just use a damp cloth.
    I got mine at Paper Source, but I'm sure you can find them at other paper/craft stores.

    I am glad to hear the liquid chalk works – I'm tempted to do this with our peninsula in our kitchen (the part that overlooks our dining room) to make an art wall for our little one!

    We have a chalkboard wall in our kitchen and we love it – as does everyone who visits our house! I put up weekly menus most of the time and use it to entertain and teach the toddler.

    We don't find the dust much of a problem, unless we rub up against it. I do sweep it off the tiles, though… I would hesitate to put it in a bedroom.

    I'll have to check out those liquid chalk markers!

    I had the same thought while watching that! I've long wanted a chalkboard wall (love the weekly menu idea in a kitchen!), but being a renter, it hasn't seemed practical.

    However, I saw this idea at a craft fair that I want to try – you use lovely old silver serving trays & spray the chalk paint on them, then hang wherever you want. Here's a blog that shows them :

    Oh I loooooved that wall too! I have a chalkboard in our kitchen and it's so fun for everyone. Doodles, menus, love notes… so great. That'd be an option if you didn't want to commit to a full wall…

    My whole entry way by my back door is chalkboard walls and it's not dusty at all. Once you put stuff on there it usually stays up for awhile. To take something off you wipe it with a wet cloth, which i think picks some of the dust up. I love the area in our house and have always thought it would be great in a bedroom especially a kids bedroom.
