Black & White Ball: Decisions!
Oh no! According to this video from the 2008 ball – you’re not supposed to wear silver to a black and white affair. My new vintage gown is silver from head to sparkly toe.
So do I ignore the admonishment of some reporter and wear the silver (really, it seems kosher to me)? Or switch in a pinch hitter; the white vintage dress I wore to opening night at the opera in the fall?
What’s your vote?

I vote for the white from the Fall!
Wear the silver! San Francisco is all about doing things your own way.
I would understand caving to the pressure of the rules, but if you do go with the silver, I will be cheering you one!
I love the silver gown, but for this event I vote for the white one also!
Be bold! Go with the silver. I always find I'm happier with my original choice than going with a backup. Both dresses look amazing though!
I adore your white dress. It's stunning.
Your dress looks like it is a white-ish silver. Wear the silver.
well, she does say it is SF and anything goes, so go with the silver!!!
i really like the neckline of the silver, so that's my vote!
Silver, lady. Go for the (silver) and rock it. Plus it completely reads as a white silver, not a gray or pewter silver, which is a huge distinction. You're going to look stunning in either dress, but the silver one is calling out for a showstopping night at the ball. Continue to be confident in your choice, because it is a killer one! You're going to be a silver dimepiece!
Silver!
Sheesh. Silver is moonlight, bright, beautiful moonlight. Go for the silver. (Think Great Gatsby with all of the luscious references to white and its sister, silver.) The gown is stunning.
I truly don't mean this as snide as it may sound, but did anyone else besides you watch that video from two years ago? And you have to remember–the person giving the commentary seems like one of the people who planned the event and such people are much more uptight about these things–the crowd won't be.
Both dresses are gorgeous, so wear whichever makes you happiest and wear it with chutzpah! (I'm sure the '08 lady rumored to have worn canary yellow did 🙂
I'm ordinarily one for staying on theme, but I like the silver for this event. You'll be adding to the overall effect, not taking away from it.
silver is really just a metallic white, no?
Silver!
