I forgot my camera this weekend, so these photos are…
Wedding Wednesday: Mix Tape
It a small inconvenience that our guests have to shuttle in from a parking area to our wedding venue. The club is on a one-way residential street in the hills; there isn’t room for cars. I’ve been trying to think of a way to make the short ride a little more fun.
I might be able to convince the driver to pop a mix CD of songs into the stereo? Any other ideas?

Snacks always make people happy. Make some cute candy?
Is there anyway you can put little pictures or short stories of you two in the windows or somewhere on the seats (without being tacky) for people to look at on the drive.
This would be fun and help them remember who they’re there for. Then the park and ride won’t seem like an inconvenience at all.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it! People who are coming to see you who care, won’t mind the short ride.
What about a crossword puzzle about the two of you? Favorites, where you met, other fun trivia facts. It can get people talking and focusing on something other than the ride itself, though I wouldn’t worry too much about it! You can create your own crossword puzzle on sites like armoredpenguin.com I’ve also seen a little “pop quiz” with multiple choice questions about the guest(s) of honor that were really fun to do.
Those may be more “party game”, I don’t know.
I recently was at a wedding where we had to ride a short shuttle as well – between all the talking and general revelry I didn’t notice the ride at all & certainly didn’t feel inconvenienced. Music is always nice but I don’t think that anyone will feel inconvenienced – they’re ready to celebrate!
Ive also been a guest at many weddings with either water launch shuttles or small buses and theres generally enough merriment to keep everyone in the spirit…but if you wanted a fun idea that sort of tied in to your “show” theme…why not get volunteers to lead custom-written songs about you and your husband-to-be to the tune of classic “summer camp” type songs?
It might be fun!
I also wouldn’t worry about the shuttle – we had to shuttle our guests about 40 minutes from the church to the reception venue, and from what I heard, guests who already knew one another used it as a chance to catch up, and those who didn’t made new pals.
We had a shuttle too at my wedding and I can tell you it’s a bad idea to have drinks. In the end my sister had orange juice on her dress.
Our guests talked the whole time, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
You could put the book or pages of it in the car? They might have more time to write something more meaningful that if they are at the party and people are trying to talk to them. Ofcourse with the car moving their writing will be atrocious. 🙂
2 ideas…
Get a couple volunteers to ride the bus with either polaroids or a digital camera to snap some behind-the-scenes footage. If you go the polaroid route you could let each guest put that in your guest book along with a quick note. We had a Polaroid guest book at our wedding and it was a HUGE hit.
I’m not sure if your bus has this, but some have television sceens so the driver can play movies on longer journeys. Maybe you could rig it up and show a slideshow of pictures of you and the soon-to-be Mr?
That said, I think you probably don’t need to sweat it if you don’t want. Every wedding shuttle bus I’ve been on has been a pretty happy, chatty place.
I think the CD is a great idea!
The best wedding memory I have is of a chartered coach ride from the Oglebay wedding resort to its reception shelter on top a hill in Wheeling, WV. On the ride down, we guests (now drunk) sang through a run-down of remembered TV show themes! It was the best fun, cumulating in a late night jam-session at one of the cabins with guitars and harmonicas.
This was a very musical bunch, very much like your group seems to be.
Champagne!! Who isn’t happy with a glass of champagne in their hand?!
Don’t worry too much about it, but bottles of cold water for the ride back would be really appreciated by guests (and potentially you!) on the ride back. I was really happy to have a cool bottle of water on the bus ride back from our wedding. It was one of the first moments my husband and I had to ourselves the whole evening.
