Things I Love Today: Historic Resorts
One of my favorite ways to daydream is to look for old resorts and hotels online. Places that have a one-of-a-kind elegance and history.
In California, this would include the Hotel del Coronado, the Claremont, the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, the Ahwahnee, Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn (they don’t need to all be fancy…just historic)
It’s harder to find these sorts of hotels abroad. Since I’ve been thinking about a Mexican vacation lately, maybe the Melville in Mazatlan would fit the bill. Built in 1870, this hotel surrounds a lush courtyard. I could picture myself there with a margarita!
Update: Mom reminded me of another great old California hotel: The Mission Inn in Riverside. I had the pleasure of staying there almost ten years ago. Fantastic!

If you’re ever on the East Coast, try the Mohonk Mountain House. We go there at least once a year, and its stories, traditions, and nature are just wonderful.
P.S. Had to delete the last version of the post because the URL was wrong. Sorry!
That is beautiful!
I think the Casa Santo Domingo in Antigua, Guatemala is exactly the kind of place you’re talking about. It’s historic and gorgeous. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time when you’re there.
