What to Wear: Mode Concert
Today’s outfit is rush delivery! Heather has a big date next week:
I thought I would get some input on a clothing challenge I’m facing. I was in LA a few weeks ago (I live in Palo Alto) and was set up on a blind date with my cousin’s brother-in-law. The date went well and he asked me out again. So for our second date I’m flying down to LA go with him to the Muse concert at the LA Forum (April 10th). Now what to wear. I would like to leave an impression on the guy, but the only thing I can think to wear is jeans and a t-shirt. Maybe spice it up with some shoes???
I’ve struggled with this sort of outfit before. Rob and I go to see our friend’s band, Scissors for Lefty (in Chicago this Friday!), whenever they play in the city. It’s always tough to switch to “rocker” mode from my normal style. Here’s what I recommend for Heather:
Top – Click to get a closer look at this gorgeous top in plum. It’s a bit pricey but so much better than anything I found at usual suspects Urban Outfitters and Forever 21.
Jeans – A nice dark wash in a skinny, but not too skinny jean.
Boots – Ladies, listen up. The boots-in-jeans look works only, only, with tall knee high boots. Mid-calf boots are not to be worn over pants…ever. These boots might even be a little low but the leather and cut is right.
Clutch – From Hobo International. I love their wallets.
Bracelet – A rocking gold cuff from Urban Outfitters.
Poster – A souvenir of your date. I like hanging rock posters on the inside of closet doors and cabinets.

very cute!
a good tip i learned for the boots, i wear a thin pair of soccer socks with them (or other tallish but thin yet strong socks) then you tuck the jeans into the socks and it helps keep them from getting bunched up around your knees. i think lucky or instyle had a different version where you get a clip that goes under your heel (think stirup pants) and holds the jeans down.
love love love the outfit. you’ve got a talent for this. thanks a million. let’s hope the date is a success 🙂
I'm seeing Muse this Saturday, and I've had my outfit picked for weeks, which is actually quite similar to yours. Nice purple tank, dark skinny jeans, and knee-high black leather boots. Looks cute!
