Coveted: Antique Silver
I am one of the weird few who actually enjoys polishing silver. Lucky for me, estate silver isn’t too hard find and the prices can be surprisingly reasonable. Gump’s carries some lovely antiques in their silver wing and there are some great sources online for gorgeous one of a kind pieces:
- Nelson & Nelson Antiques – Just looking at the photo of their store on the homepage makes me dizzy. I’m pretty sure I would faint if I had a chance to go to their store in New York.
- eBay – Admittedly, I’ve never successfully purchased anything from eBay. It frustrates me because they have such great things. I’ve been considering buying a set of sterling silverware to use daily as a replacement for our terrible Ikea set.
- DecoDame – Art Deco silver is some of the loveliest available. Like this fantastic spoon…$1,200 for a spoon!
- Spencer Marks – Now I’m really drooling all over my keyboard. This mother of pearl dessert service for 18 is divine.
This is a dangerous pursuit if there ever was one!

ooh. I was in Scolari’s yesterday and I finally remembered to pick up some of that paste silver polish you love so much. I have a tray on my nightstand that’s just crying for attention. What’s it called, Twinkle?

My favorite is Wright’s Silver Cream. They have a pretty interesting website – http://www.jawright.com/
You gotta get Auction Sniper, it is the only way to eBay. Look it up on Google. You set the highest price you’d be willing to pay, and it makes sure you are winning up until that point.
Silver is one thing we have a great deal of, dear one. Don’t even think about buying any more until you see what we have here! Enjoy your weekend! Love, M
Hi Mom! I love our own silver too!
