It's already November, and that means it is time for…
Weekend Round-Up: Triathletic
I’m probably in the best shape of my life right now, which of course means that I feel terrible…usually like I’ve been hit by a bus! As I write this on Sunday night after a weekend of three sports, my arms hurt, my hands hurt, my back hurts, my legs hurt, my butt hurts. Rob is very proud!
Stage 1: Friday night started with a trip to the rock climbing gym where I had my first top rope on-sight 5.10 B climb in a long time (perhaps my first ever). Rob, Matt and I climbed for over two hours. At 8:00, we drove up to Russian Hill for a very good and very cheap sushi dinner. Here’s Amber modeling the samurai helmet:
Stage 2: After breakfast on Saturday morning, Jordan and Paul picked us up for kayaking in Sausalito. Our first session of the summer! It was cold and foggy all over the bay as we suited up in life jackets (pregnant Jordan was glowing adorably!) We paddled about mile north to the houseboat harbor and back. I think Paul really took to it, he looked like a sea captain (photo from Jordan):
We returned the boats and had a quick break in Tiburon before heading back to the city. After a quick rest and Live Earth watching, Rob and I went down to Union Square for sale shopping and errands. We had our favorite “tourist dinner:” clam chowder bread bowls at Macy’s and then returned home for a quiet evening.
Stage 3: I made a nice breakfast of toast, scrambled eggs and coffee on Sunday morning in preparation for our big day. At 11:00, Matt and Amber came over for a bike ride around the city. We rode through Golden Gate Park to the beach where Matt took a pretty big fall. Rob and I were on the tandem. We look like such studs:
From there we went over to the Legion of Honor, to the Presidio and back to Velo Rouge Cafe for lunch and Tour de France watching. By the time we got home, we’d covered 14.3 miles (impressive considering San Francisco is only 7×7 miles).
Completely worn out, I treated myself to a pedicure and spent the rest of the night relaxing and trying not to move.
Previous Post: Tour Fever: Breaking Away
Is Matt cycling using a climbing helmet? And taking nasty falls? That doesn’t seem like a good competition. I am glad you guys are continuing to be excited about the Tour, our influence lives on. You can cheer for Levi Leipheimer this year! Though I will always have a special place in my heart for George Hincape and Iban Mayo (because they constantly don’t win..)
Oh! I saw Butterstick on Saturday. He was all sprawled out and napping because it was crazy hot, but he was still a cutie. I gotta send you the pictures.
A good combination is what I meant, not good competition. Whoops.
Not a good combination at all. Poor Matt!
poor my shinny bikes and climbing helmets 🙂
I actually developed some vicarious lactic acid just reading this. Bravo to you!
