Wedding: Crisis Averted
There are many reasons why I’m glad I have 12+ months to plan the wedding. One of the best is that I get to have a test run this fall.
It could have been a fiasco. I forgot that the date I originally chose for the wedding – October 4, 2008 – just so happens to be Fleet Week in San Francisco (here’s my description from last year). Along with huge crowds of tourists and sailors, there would have been fighter jets booming over our wedding. It would have been like getting married in Beirut!
Luckily, I saw a poster for Fleet Week last night and realized the potential problem. We’re likely on for September 27, 2008 instead. It’s a better date anyway, my sister and I were both born on the 27th.
PS: Rob just suggested that we celebrate our -1 anniversary next week. Isn’t he wonderful?

The minus one anniversary is so thoughtful!
Whew, good catch! Yikes.
Re. -1 anniversaries, my now-husband has never been the Send Flowers type, but one of the two or three times in 8 years together that he did was on the -1 year mark from our wedding; lovely orchids sent to my office. Awwww.
Fleet Week doesn’t sound like a particularly romantic time to get married. Good call changing the date.
That was a lucky catch, although I think you may be underestimating the loveliness of a Beirut wedding. A wedding party with machine guns could be very fashion forward. 🙂
It would be quite the political statement 😉
Just came across you blog and oddly, I went to a wedding in San Fransisco during Fleet Week in 1999! I’m not even joking…it was on at our friend’s loft on Pine or Bush near California and during the reception we all went on the roof to watch the planes flying in formation. It was actually super cool–like built in entertainment and made the day pretty memorable we all thought–(case in point–I remembered!
In any case I wish you the best for a beautiful September 27th wedding!
I am getting married October 10 this year and am having our parents come in early just to attend fleet week. We get married on a Wednesday, so we shouldn’t have noise issues. The only problem with it is that all the hotels are booked out because of fleet week, the international bluegrass festival, and it is Columbus Day weekend (north beach will be crowded)! Luckily I booked the hotel in July and found the perfect B&B just blocks from our place. Personally, I love fleet week but understand that you may want to avoid the hassle of noise. Oh, and I have been to a wedding in Beirut — it was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever attended.
