Things I Love Today: Cherries
First cherries of the summer! Super sweet and luckily they didn’t cost a fortune. Growing up, we had two giant bing cherry trees in the back yard. We picked wheelbarrows full and gave them away to neighbors in big quantities. So it always pains me to pay $3/lb for the red beauties at the supermarket.
You can find cherries for $0.50/lb at the Mexican markets along 16th street. They also had apricots at the same price and mangoes 3 for $1. Those are almost jam and pie prices! I haven’t made jam in ages.
