Things I Love Today: British Style

I’ve recently fallen in love with the classic BBC show To the Manor Born (so much so, that I’ve just revealed the affair to all of Arizona)

Set in the English countryside in the early 80’s, it’s all about high society, hunt parties and butlers who have coffee waiting for you in the drawing room. I looove it.

Between this and the arrival of six hours of Pride and Prejudice in HD (swoon!) I’m finding a dangerous new lust for all things tweedy, velvety, embroidered and wooly for fall. There are some very tempting sales in the city this weekend. If Toast opens a store in the city, I’ll be in real trouble. I need at least two of these vintage-inspired blankets.

Alright, fess up Emily- you have acquired the ability to read my mind. I'VE been watching To The Manor Born lately. I've also just finished the first disc of Butterflies, another good 70's Britcom. It features Geoffrey Palmer from As Time Goes By. 🙂

Spooky! We're on the same PBS-BBC brainwashing wavelength! I haven't heard of butterflies but it is going on my queue today.

PS: Is your husband also being driven crazy by all this? Rob calls the show "To the Husband Bored"

A friend of mine throws a Pride & Prejudice slumber party every year. Girls only, and we watch the entire BBC miniseries. Oh yes. It is quite a night. Last year, we had a chocolate fountain (yes, I own one). Oh Mr. Darcy!

Another one of my favorite british comedies. Penelope Keith was the best at being snooty, wasn't she?

Have you been able to see A Fine Romance, with Judi Dench, yet?

For the most part he likes the Britcoms too. He didn't like Manor as much as he does Good Neighbors, which is my 2nd favorite after ASTB. He does however get sick of ASTB because it rarely leaves the DVD player in the bedroom, ha.
