Here's the great thing about throwing a dinner parties: once…
With Parents: San Francisco with the Folks
When you have parents with you, you’ll probably also have both a car and a slightly bigger budget. Here are a few suggestions for exploring San Francisco with your parents:
- Go to North Beach for an italian dinner followed by Beach Blanket Babylon
- Spend the day at the Legion of Honor viewing fine art, Rodin sculpture and porcelain. Picnic at Land’s End
- See Coit Tower and track down the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill
- Drive up to Twin Peaks for an amazing view of the city, especially on a clear day
- Brunch at Park Chalet, especially on a foggy day, followed by a walk around Sutro Park.
- Go to the free Opera in the Park on September 13
- Visit Gump’s and drool over china patterns
- Drive to Sausalito to see the view, browse boats by kayak and have lunch at Le Garage.
- Taste everything (cheese, wine, chocolate, bread, caviar, mushrooms, coffee, oysters, etc) at the Ferry Building

Emily–these posts are right on the money! I have a vacation coming up next week, and due to our budget, we're having a staycation. I'm doing the itinerary now of things-I've-wanted-to-do-in-the-city-but-never-did-or-got-around-to to perk things up a bit and you've provided some good inspiration. I'm a SF native but there is still a few things that I haven't done!
I don't think it is possible to run out of things to do here in the city. Have a great staycation!
my mom and i had the BEST breakfast at the ferry building when she visited… scones from miette, italian sodas, fresh cheese curds, acme breads, yummy produce from the farmer's market.. i miss it!
