Urban Girl Tip: Wedding registries
I’ve been to a fair share of weddings in my day and about half the time the couple’s registry is filled with totally insane items. Red satin sheets? Shot glass chess set? Crystal figurines? Where are the dishes? It’s not their fault usually, people in California reject all forms of formality and unfortunately this often results in bizarrely impractical wedding registries. So, for the record and in my humble opinion, here is what every basic wedding registry should include:
- A set of dishware – It doesn’t have to be fancy china, but you should include dishes in your registry
- Matching serving dishes
- A set of water glasses
- A set of wine glasses
- A set of flatware – Again, it doesn’t have to be fancy silver, but you should include this in your registry
- A set of serving spoons
- A cake service
- A set of grapefruit spoons
- A set of crab forks (maybe this one is a San Francisco-only necessity)
- A set of kitchen knives
- A set of steak knives
- Two tablecloths
- Two sets of placemats
- Two sets of dinner napkins
- A set of bed linens (no satin, please!)
- A cashmere throw blanket
- A set of towels
If you don’t already have appliances, pots or bakeware you can add these items to the list. If you already have basic dishes and flatware that you like, register for something fancy you wouldn’t buy on your own. You only get one registry (let’s hope) so make it count. Also, don’t over do it with your registry. People will inevitable gravitate toward buying you things you don’t really need and away from your china and flatware. Fewer choices means more guests buying the things you really want.
