Things I love today: French olive wood flatwear

Rob and I have the worst flatware on the planet. We bought it four years ago. It was from Ikea and probably cost us $10 for two sets. It’s been discontinued (thank god!) but this set for $2.99 is pretty close.

It’s not that it is unattractive, just that it is so extremely cheap. The spoon can barely make it through a bowl of soup without bending! And we’ve now managed to lose all but ten of the forks. Maybe our housekeeper is mistaking them for disposable?

We’ve been casually shopping for flatware over the last few months but it is impossible to decide. I would be happy using sterling everyday and Rob wants something that has a nice design. This set from Sur la Table is one of the few we can agree on. It’s certainly not sterling, but would probably work for everyday meals. Unfortunately, it would be quite the investment. We would need three or four sets and at $199 each…yikes!
