Weekend Round-Up: Luxury and Botany

Weekend Round-Up: Luxury and Botany

I’m taking just a quick break from all the jewelry to report on my fun, relaxing weekend! Rob and I had a quiet night at home on Friday, per what seems to be our new tradition.

On Saturday morning, we had a nice breakfast and I dressed up for an afternoon with my mom and a family friend downtown. Mom and Barbara arrived by BART at 12:30 for lunch at The Palace. The three of us each ordered the famous Garden Court dungeness crab salad and a glass of wine. The salad was delicious and included at least two cups of freshly shelled crab. It was hard to finish, but we all did and even got a second wind for chocolate cake.

After lunch, we continued our “ladies of leisure” tour with a stop at Gump’s to explore the jewelry and silver wings. After that we stopped at Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. I helped Mom find a lovely cashmere blazer in paprika at something like 85% off. Our final stop was Neiman Marcus where we drooled over all the designs and stopped in the rotunda for a few glasses of cranberry juice. Now 4:30, it was time to peel off and say goodbye. I hope I’ll have more visits like that soon!

Sunday started with a huge breakfast! Rob and I made coffee, whole wheat English muffins, scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. At 11:00, we took the N-train out to the botanical gardens and spent three hours enjoying the blooming magnolias and identifying edible plants.

We walked home from the park, stopping in at an open house for a $1.3 million condo up the hill. We hadn’t planned to, but ended up watching some of the Super Bowl. The rest of the evening was spent cleaning house and putting together posts on jewelry for this week. I had planned on baking from the Tartine cook book I bought…but found myself very quickly overwhelmed! Maybe tonight!
