What to Wear: Hamptons Weekend
Anne has a big business trip to the Hamptons coming up. Unfortunately, all that glamorous business travel doesn’t come with an expense account for new outfits. Here’s her request:
I have to help out at a posh event in the Hamptons in two weeks, and have no clue what to wear. The attendees will be wealthy, well-connected luxury car owners including a few celebrities, and I’ll be representing my company so need to look pretty put together – but on a *really* tight budget, around $200, with comfortable shoes that work well on grass.
The big events for the weekend are a clambake dinner on the beach Saturday night, and a fashion show/bruncheon sponsored by Vogue on Sunday. Talk about wardrobe stress!!
Thank heaven’s for Los Angeles and the prevalence of jersey dresses this season. Anne should immediately channel her inner casual-Californian and rock these basic, but nice outfits with confidence:
Clambake
Sweater – This lightweight “beach sweater” is from the Gap for $44, but could easily pass for something costing 10 times more.
Jeans – A nice dark pair, hopefully with a recognizable label. Anne probably already has a favorite pair in her closet.
Shoes – A cork wedge will be good on the grass. Cut off the Payless tag before you leave and no one will know the difference.
Necklace – Go with a long beaded chain to add a little something extra. Feel free to find a nicer version than this $5 pick from Forever 21.
Sunglasses – An absolute must for mingling up among them.
Bruncheon
Dress – This Design History dress has fashion street cred, but is on sale for only $48 from Bluefly.
Anne should spend the rest of her money on a good quality spray tan, a blow out and a pedicure. Self confidence is the trick to pulling off these faux fashion outfits! All those celebs and fancy car owners won’t know the difference.
