What to Wear: Rock Show

How do you maintain cool-kid-cred when you’re secretly a suburban soccer mom? Here is Caroline’s request:

Goodness, I love your blog. So clever & girly & cosmopolitan. PLEASE help me on this one: I am a mom of 4 super cool kiddos. I am a work-from-home graphic designer and stationery creator. My hubby and I were once super hipsters and now are super suburban parents. We are planning to go see a friend from our hipster punk-rock days, he is in a successful band, playing a big rock show. My husband and I haven’t been out much together recently, so I want to be looking put together! Any ideas? I do not want to look like I am trying to be a youngster, like the audience, but I don’t want to look like I just rolled out of the minivan, know what I am saying?

With a few careful details, no one will guess Caroline and her husband are anything other than super hipsters:

Her
Dress – A killer dress or short skirt with dark tights is the easiest way to look fab. This $129 French Connection dress is polished and age appropriate with an edge. If you think you’d be overdressed in it (I don’t), throw skinny jeans underneath with flats. Wear your hair down and don’t-care-loose.
Bracelet – Silver bangle from Forever21 for $6.
Earrings – Metal studs from Forever21.
Shoes – Heels would be very cute, but I can’t manage standing in heels for a four hour concert. Black patent leather with a low wedge for $30 should fit the bill.

Him
Tee – Cool T-shirt supporting an up and coming band. In this case, our friends from Scissors for Lefty.
Hoodie – From American Apparel.
Jeans – A cool diesel pair.
Sneakers – Classic black vans.

Rock on Caroline!
