Thanksgiving weekend is almost here...and that means it is time…
What to Wear: June Wedding
Sarah wrote in recently with a request for a wedding. Originally she was planning on a black dress. Call me old fashioned, but I just can’t stomach black for a wedding (or white…or red). So she found a gorgeous blue number and came back for accessory help:
I LOVE this new dress! Have you ever tried something on and felt like it was made for you? I tried this one on and felt like I could carry a red carpet! Soooo, what would you wear with this?
Technically, you could do silver or navy with the dress. But basic black accessories take it to the next level. Be careful, going with patent could accidentally cross this over into nuevo-eighties territory:
Dress – Love the bright color, the silk and the dramatic draping. This is one serious dress!
Shoes – Find something with a little more substance to ground the dress. This pair has a stacked heel and simple toe.
Clutch – A basic piece from Forever 21.
Bracelet – An Egyptian silver piece from the Met.
Earrings – Sterling silver ball earrings are a festive alternative to pearls.
Coat – In white from French Connection for a fairly reasonable $99.
Unintentionally, this came out very Jackie O late 1960’s. Which is perfectly fabulous and glam for a wedding!
PS: Does a white coat violate the no-white-to-a-wedding rule? I don’t think it does…

I think the white coat is great, as long as she leaves it unbuttoned, since it looks like it would cover the dress completely.
P.S. Great seeing you at T.J.’s last week!
Small city, isn’t it!
I agree about the black/ white thing. I know that black is almost a uniform with people (guilty).. ,but it’s still to funeral like for a wedding and white is trying to compete with the bride.. or so the books say. I don’t know the rule about red.. you’ll have to tell me that one.
But, this dress is perfect! What a stunner of a color.. one of my favorites in all the rainbow and that dress is just so pretty!
I always thought red at a wedding was like red at a funeral…a bold statement usually reserved for the other woman or old girlfriend. Could just be my overactive imagination though.
