I'm so excited that my friend, Nicole, is coming in…
Party Recap: It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Right
My first-ever baby shower went very well. I love the challenge of hosting a theme party using what I already have in the house. I can’t wait to host the next one!
Decorations: Pandora‘s disco station provided the tunes. I made a big centerpiece with sunflowers, kermit mums and blue delphinium in a round blue vase and put it over a yellow and green African runner.
Rob helped me hang a clothesline with onesies in the living room window. I made “groovy” yellow flowers from construction paper to put on the clothespins.
Clothes: I paired my polyester maxi dress with big earrings, a bigger bracelet, blue eyeshadow and blue shoes. Guests came in everything from leather pants to retro floral dresses.
Food: Snap peas, carrots, broccoli and heirloom cherry tomatoes with onion dip got us started. I served white wine, orangina and blueberry soda. We all sat around two fondue pots for lunch. For dipping, I had dishes with country bread cubes, olive bread cubes, green apples, red pears, artichoke hearts and good french cornichons.
My not-excellent cake decorating skills were actually theme-appropriate. The funfetti layer cake looked straight out of the 70’s:
Games: Thanks for all your great suggestions! I started the party with a quick conversation game where guests guessed which 70’s children’s TV character’s photo was taped to their back. Amber was Wonder Woman, of course!
After lunch, we retired to the living room to open presents with Amber. I passed out coloring book pages with a 70’s mom and twins for people to color and write their wishes for her new family. We had cake after the presents and awarded prizes (pineapples!) to the best costume and the best drawing.

What an awesome party!!! Thank you a million times over – you are truly the hostess with the mostess (how’s that for cheesy? To go with the fondu… 🙂 )
Of course, what occurs to me is where was the cocaine. But that’s just a smart-ass remark. Pay me no mind.
Sounds like such a fun party!
