To Do: Puerto Vallarta

To Do: Puerto Vallarta

Can you believe it’s already the 2nd of August?!  I could really use a quick escape before San Francisco’s busy summer season starts in September. Virgin America flights to Puerto Vallarta are cheap and the Mexican coast looks like the perfect place to unplug with a book for a long weekend.

Have you been to Puerto Vallarta?  Any recommendations on places to stay?

We loved Casa Amorita (http://www.casaamorita.com/). It's a bed and breakfast in PV. You can walk everywhere from it. Also, Barcelona (http://www.barcelonatapas.net/), the tapas restaurant is officially my favorite restaurant ever. We ate there two of the three nights we were in PV. Also, the town of Sayulita is really cool if you want a small surf town experience. They have tons of house rentals and you can take the bus from PV really easily.

Read your blog all the time, but this is my first comment! Playa Fiesta is where you should stay, http://www.playafiesta.com. It is the most beautiful place, small boutique style hotel, where everyone knows your name. Adam and Lindsay are they owners (Americans from SF). I got married there so I'm a bit biased, but it really is fabulous. There is also this amazing restaurant, Tony's Hideaway in Mismaloya (south of PV). You should also rent a boat or hike the 4 miles from Boca de Tomaltan (also south of PV) to Las Animas beach. It's a gorgeous hike along and sometimes through the water, and Las Animas is only accessible by boat or hike, so it's more private, but has restaurants and beach activities.

We spend ALOT of time in PV and Punta Mita ( about a 40 minute drive from PV) we own a beautiful beachfront condo there and really think of it as our second home. I would highly recommend taking a boat from Punta Mita out to the Marietta Islands to snorkel. It is spectacular. Lots of fun places to eat but If you are in that area at dinner time you have to go to tacos and papas. The most amazing street tacos. Just ask a local and they will give you directions. Have fun!
