EmilyStyle is Going to Alaska!

After spending the winter in the warmth of the South of France, Hawaii and the Mediterranean, we’re mixing things up and heading north for summer!  Alaska is maybe the one place in America colder than San Francisco in June.

Rob and I are going to travel with our friends Seth and Amy for 14 days, via RV starting in Anchorage. I think we’ll pass through Seward, Homer and around Denali. I traveled through the southern part of Alaska with my family a long time ago. Juneau and Ketchikan had gorgeous landscapes. The Alaskan native arts were my absolute favorite thing to see.

As always, I would love your advice on where to go and what to see while we’re there!

Alyeska Resort is a nice place to visit. We went in the summer and there were blackberries all along the trails.

An RV is absolutely the way to go! We went to Alaska a few years ago and looped Anchorage, Soldotna, Talkeetna, Byers Creek and Denali National Park. All the parks are amazing and really help focus your journey–the landscape is so vast, it can get overwhelming without good advice from those in the know.

If you have the chance, a guided fishing trip is a great experience. Ours was in the rivers, not the ocean, so no sea sickness and lots of action catching salmon (which the guides clean, filet and package for you to take home).

Enjoying your travels! My only trip to Alaska was a 12 day backpack in the Brooks Range over 14 years ago. My husband and I have traveled a lot since then and Alaska remains my favorite!

I grew up in Juneau which is a gorgeous little city. The town can get really hit with tourists if there are several ships in. There are great ridge hikes and kayaking. My family loves Sitka it has great food and is more off the tourist track.

We spent a lovely day at Wrangell – St Elias National Park while we were on our honeymoon. We got to take a training run on a rigged up cart behind a team of sled dogs. REALLY cool experience.

We also took a speed boat ride up the Copper River during Salmon season and got to see the bazillion of them all swimming up stream. So awesome.

    Have fun! I loved Alaska!
