Things I Love Today: Alstroemeria
Having flowers at home is so nice but can be so expensive! Enter our hero: alstroemeria! Alstroemeria (aka: Peruvian Lily) is my favorite flower for everyday arrangements. You can find them in a wide array of colors and I love the “freckles” they display when open.
Buy two bundles (about $3 each at Safeway) with tightly closed buds. You’ll have enough for one big arrangement on the dining room table and two small bunches for your bedside and bathroom. If left with enough water, the flowers can last upward of two weeks.

How do you arrange these? I always get them and then when I get home I’m at a loss for how to display them well. The usually just end up in a clump.
I like them bunched together in a low round vase or as a loose bunch in a tall pitcher. Once they open up a bit, they look a lot fuller. The small bouquets do well in creamers or bud vases.
I love those as well. I think it’s a good idea to have a little money in the budget for fresh flowers. They are the little indulgence that makes all the difference.
