Hostess: Cinco de Mayo Party
Cinco de Mayo is this Friday! What better way to celebrate the end of the rain than with a dinner party for a few friends?! Invite over four or five people and make it an evening in. Here is my recipe for a fun Cinco de Mayo celebration:
- Decorate the table with brightly colored red, blue and green linens.
- Use cheery orange and red flowers for the arrangements. Potted geraniums or calla lilies can work too.
- Serve drinks in mason jars.
- Set aside a few flowers and bobby pins in the bathroom and encourage your female guests to decorate their hair.
- Pop in a Sergent Garcia CD.
- Remember these skirts from last summer? This is the perfect time to resurrect one, maybe with a pair of cowboy boots.
- Don’t forget the beer. I prefer Negro Modelo.
- Hang celebration banners above the doorway.
- Make your own guacamole. My recipe: two lightly mashed avocados, juice from one big lime, two spoonfuls of good pico de gallo, teaspoon of onion salt and half teaspoon of chili powder.
- Serve build-your-own tacos or cook up a big pan of enchiladas.
- Offer two kinds of margaritas, standard and mango.
