Travel: Thailand recommendations?
Rob and I want to go to Thailand in late January. It feels like we haven’t been on vacation in ages! I’m starting to look at tickets and they are not as bad as I thought, about $600-900.
Does anyone have recommendations for things to do and see in Thailand? I would especially like tips for finding a small resort or beach town off the beaten path.
Update: I’ve now narrowed the trip down to Krabi. This area is known for lovely beaches and great rock climbing. Any hot tips for this area specifically are much appreciated!

Please tell me if you finad a decent flight! I’ve been keeping my eye on flights to Thailand for a few months now but I haven’t seen anything that great.
James bond island is awesome, although not off the beaten path. They offer very cool canoo trips there, where you can just paddle where you want… with awesome photography opportunities for Rob.
Another thing is Thailand Carnavals and Discoteques (thats what they call it there) are awesome.
Good luck
A.
I found some tickets for $600 online here/
i am way envious. i have to wait another year now for a vacation…since i have to accrue it per pay period. so go to thailand, have the time of your life, and take lots of photos. you can bring me back something too…ha ha 🙂
Railey Beach is the best place to stay in that area, theres the east side or the west side or 2 minutes further from the west side there is Ton Sai Bay which is less populated. There are all sorts of different types of accomodation and you can organise sightseeing tours from there to places like James Bond Island etc, or rent a longtail boat for the day to take you island hopping for deserted beaches in the harbour and there’s an amazing donut shaped lagoon that you do some light rock climbing to get to. they have fire dancers some nights at the beach bar on the west side which when I was there played pretty good music from chilled out stuff to house etc. Here are some websites to check out:

Thanks for the tip Emily. We bought our tickets to Thailand this weekend! (Last time I found $600 tickets I waited to long and when I went to buy them they were gone.) So we jumped on these.
How exciting! When are you going?
Jan 18-28th. They tack on a hefty fee ($200+ per person. If you haven’t bought your tickets be prepared for that.)
woah, after todays news are you guys still going? i wonder what is going to happen there!
We’re waiting a few weeks to see what happens before we buy our tickets. Between this and gas prices, maybe they’ll get cheaper 😉
If it gets bad, we’re thinking Africa or Mexico instead.
