Weekend Round-Up: Visiting SLO

Weekend Round-Up: Visiting SLO

What a lovely Labor Day weekend! Rob and I drove down to San Luis Obispo on Friday night. Our new favorite route is the 280 to the 85 to the 101…you get to avoid San Jose entirely.

The next morning, we went for the traditional Saturday morning breakfast at The Budget Cafe with my parents. This tiny little cafe was full of farmers, former coworkers, people from my Mom’s aqua aerobics class, etc. Very fun. At 1, Rob and I drove down to Santa Maria for a memorial service. Rob’s uncle passed away last week after a long illness. This more a celebration of his life than a traditional funeral and it was fun to see Rob’s cousins and their adorable 9 month old babies. Plus, we got to meet Rob’s newest nephew for the first time. Little Nathaniel is only a few weeks old and quite feisty!

After the memorial service, we had a few extra hours in Santa Maria and went to see Little Miss Sunshine. I loved this movie! Especially the part where the horn breaks because I once had a Volkswagen with the same problem! At 7:00, we met my parents at the theatre to see the opening night of “Dames at Sea.” This was a great show full of tap dancing and corny jokes. At 10:00, we drove back to SLO and crashed into bed.

We had a leisurely morning on Sunday with the New York Times and breakfast from my parent’s makeshift kitchen. They are just finishing a major remodeling of the living room and kitchen and the house is a bit of a war zone. Around noon, we met up with Rich, Molly and Margaret for lunch at Firestone’s. I bought a pair of pink soccer shorts at Copeland’s and got an amazing deal on a pair of penguin jeans at Dizzi’s. Rob and Rich emptied out the old storage unit and we drove over to Rob’s sister’s house to drop off some things and hang out with his four nephews. Rob won a game of horse and I made the baby smile! We returned home for a delicious Chinese food picnic and a very challenging game of Turbo Cranium.

Breakfast with Rich, Molly and Margaret again on Monday. This time at Rudolph’s Coffee and Tea. Molly starts teaching today up in Hayfork and Rich is going to move North after her in a few weeks. I can’t believe that they won’t be living on Branch Street anymore! After breakfast, we drove down to Arroyo Grande to visit with our friend Brian and his girlfriend Bonnie. We ate more than enough blue cheese dip and some delicious veggie burgers at his house! After this barbecue it was time for one last delicious meal in SLO. We went with my parents for an early dinner at Chili Peppers before driving home last night.

Relaxation, friends and good food – what more can you ask for?! This was a perfect weekend!
