Weekend Round-Up: Domestic Bliss
This weekend was so quiet and relaxing! Compared to our normal jam-packed weekends, Rob and I were practically hermits these last two days.
Friday, we came home a little late from work. After our really long and busy week it was so nice to just have a quiet evening in our PJ’s with some bean tacos and a movie.
The sun was shining in our neighborhood Saturday morning, so I made a pot of coffee and joined rob in the back courtyard while he waxed the new car. It was relaxing to be outside with a New Yorker watching the neighborhood wake up. When he finished, we drove down to the used gear sale at REI and had a nice lunch on the bay at Jelly’s. Rob is gearing up for a canyoneering trip with his friends next weekend.
Rob worked on installing a Thule roof rack on the car (can you tell that he loves his new Fit?) while I relaxed and read upstairs. At 6:00, we were preparing for the outdoor movie but decided at the last minute that it would be too cold. Instead we had a romantic anniversary dinner of Chinese takeout and champagne at home.
Sunday morning, we woke up early for a bike ride across the city. The sun was gone and replaced by a soupy mist blanket over the entire city. We pedaled through the park and over to the Presidio for the Aloha Festival. We watched Rob’s ukulele teacher perform and ate filipino lumpia. After a few hours, we were freezing and pedaled back home. A 10 mile ride!
On our way to parking the bike, our mean neighbor and a friend tried to harass us about our noise complaints and threatened to take us to court. So strange because he’s actually been really quiet lately. I was a little shaken up after that encounter but I calmed myself down by polishing all the silver in the house, taking a nice long bath and painting my nails.
Rob and I had a nice dinner of mushroom ravioli followed by apricot and blueberry tarts. We tucked into bed early and slept like logs all night long.

That’s funny. We went to the Aloha Fest on Saturday after the environmental journey photo exhibit at the Presidio.
can you really take someone to court for turning you for noise? doesn’t seem possible to me – no grounds. and i watch judge judy every afternoon.
next time your neighbor is noisy – you should record it on your cell phone. that way you have proof.
He wouldn’t have a case. The problem is that he’s a trust fund baby with way more money than sense. People like that always try to “sue” their way to happiness.
That guy can’t sue you… and you wouldn’t complain if he would be quiet. You have to have better manners to live so closely to people in the city.. and even in the burbs. I think when people leave their barking dogs out.. it’s really rude. Life, liberty and the pursuit of peace and quiet.
your blog inspires me to leave nyc and move to san fran permanently. i head to your neck of the woods tonight and i can’t wait — i have a feeling i’ll won’t wanna come back to my hectic life in the big apple!
Perfect timing! I’m about to post a visitors guide to SF 🙂
