What to Wear: New England

What to Wear: New England

I’m so jealous of all the little vacation jaunts everyone has planned for spring. Too bad that we’re stockpiling our vacation time for the big honeymoon trip this September. Sarah is off to Massachusetts:

I’m a flight attendant so about 90% of my time, I’m in my “fantastic” uniform. The other 10% of the time, I’m in comfy clothes (like jeans and sweats). Besides the uniform, there are some great benefits to being a flight attendant. Like all the travel benefits I get. This spring, I’m planning my first trip to New England. I’m really want to go to either Nantucket or Cape Code and I have no idea of what I should pack. I don’t think jeans and sweats will get me through the week.

I’m 24 and I have a relaxed, easy going style. I’m curvy (hour glass figure) and about 5’6″. I would love to come up with a few mix and match pieces that would be prefect for my trip. I love J.Crew but I don’t have a huge budget to work with. Any suggestions?

Depending on when you go, the weather is still going to be pretty brisk. That shouldn’t stop you from hiking the dunes and downing lobster rolls though!

Boots – Real wellies are about $100, these are close in style for $20 from Target.
Sweater – A few stripes are nautical and cute.
Jacket – A little canvas jacket will keep you warm.
Jeans – Find a pair that can be dressed up or down.
Tote – Another northeastern classic.
Scarf – For a little extra warmth.
Notebooks – These pocket sized notepads are great for jotting down the directions to your favorite chowder house.
Earrings – Simple studs.

Have a great time!

Thought I might add a few packing tidbits:
I just returned from a weekend in Maine, and it was COLD! I was grateful for the “just in case” down jacket and gloves I had packed. A cute hat and light scarf would have been perfect layers against that stiff sea breeze.

I love this look! Since I am moving to the east coast, I think I need to buy the entire outfit and wear it EVERY DAY. 🙂

PSSST! Nantucket and Cape Cod are in Mass., not Maine! 😉

The coast in Spring can definitely be chilly as well as hot at times too! Very cute outfit but definitely make sure to also bring a warm sweater or two & a fleece especially for the evenings. Have a great time exploring – I love spring at the beach. Not too hot & NO crowds!

Thanks for the geography tip! I’m a total dummy when it comes to the East.

I live in MA… make sure to have a jacket and umbrella!! Spring in New England tends to be pretty rainy. 🙂 Enjoy! Nantucket is beautiful. Depending on when you are visiting you should make sure to check which festivals are happening there at the time —

maine, cape cod, either way, it’s going to be chilly! it’s in the high 40s in boston right now, so be sure to bundle up.

that said, i find rain boots to be uncomfortable for long jaunts. canvas slip-ons might be a better idea (better for walking on the beach!).

Very cute! What are your thoughts on horizontal stripes?

I love thin horizontal stripes. It is the big jailhouse-style stripes that can be problematic.

The Vineyard and Nantucket tend to be a little cooler than the mainland, so pack a few “extras” for layering. And enjoy our New England.

    And mosquito repellant!
