Day Tripper: San Francisco on a Short Timeline
You’re passing through town for a conference or business trip. Not much time, but a few hours to see the sights. Here’s what you can quickly and easily do in downtown San Francisco:
- Drop in to SFMOMA for a bit of modern art
- Have a cream puff from Beard Papa
- Do a little shopping on union square
- Get a gardenia from a sidewalk flower stand off Union Square.
- Expense a fancy lunch at The Palace
- Buy sandalwood soap inside the Chinatown gates
- Get coffee at Blue Bottle Cafe in Mint Plaza
- Walk behind the MLK memorial waterfall in Yerba Buena Gardens and watch the old Chinese men do tai chi (I did this today!)
- Have Boudin clam chowder bread bowls at Macy’s
- Toast the skyline with a view at the Starlight Room
- Take the glass elevator at The St. Francis

Aren't you clever Emily? You somehow knew that we're coming to SF in a month!
What a great day. It's been too long since my last visit (and I am thrilled with the two-a-day posting. Hooray!).
When I lived in SF, I often took the elevator at St. Francis, I bet I'm on the hotel's watch list. Haha. It's a great view though.
You're coming to SF! How exciting! We should meet for tea 🙂
While visiting SFMOMA, don't forget to visit the new Rooftop Garden & Coffee Bar (more Blue Bottle). Admire the giant Louise Bourgeois spiders and Kiki Smith's Virgin Mary while enjoying a nice big slice of Thiebaud Cake.
