Picking out the Right Pair of Fall Sneakers
After wearing a (very cute) pair of metallic leather loafers to the NASA open house on Saturday morning and proceeding to cancel plans due to achy feet all Saturday night…I made a resolution to buy and wear actual sneakers this fall. Pinterest is full of “cool girls” wearing sneakers with leather leggings, rolled up jeans or trim suits outside of fashion shows…how hard could it be?
Pretty hard, it seems. I spent an hour pinning sneakers of all varieties. Ideally, I’d like something in a darker color so they won’t immediately get wrecked when I’m resetting my pedal while biking. Wedge sneakers seem a little too trendy for this soon-to-be 35-year-old. I’m a little unhealthily obsessed with these Nike Sneakerboots. Came really close to buying these French gold high-tops before chickening out. Classic Converse are cute with so many things, but I don’t find them comfortable. These Alexander McQueen Pumas are the current leader…maybe…?
Take a look at all the sneaker options on Pinterest. Do you have a favorite?

New Balance, girl. New Balance.
I have the Bullet Shoes by Saucony (got them at Athleta)…super comfy. I've also been eyeing the Circus By Sam Edelman Cruz slip on. I have a pair of Bensimon shoes but they're more summery. Personally when I want something just slightly dressier than a sneaker, but super comfy I always slip on my Sperry Top Sider boat shoes. 6pm.com has so many cute ones.
The Pumas. Definitely.
I do like a VAN and they are doing all sorts of funky colors and styles. NB have a cool geeky vibe.
I have Supergas…but they didn't last nearly as long as I had hoped…
Oh man, I've been on this same quest. The old-school New Balance are everywhere, and in great colors, but I'm not cool enough to pull them off–I feel like I'd just look like a suburban mom. (I'm a mom, but I'd rather not look like it!) The Saucony Bullet recommended by a previous commenter is SO cute; I tried multiple sizes and sadly they just don't fit me or I'd have definitely stuck with those. Now off to try Asics Onitsuka Tiger and give those AM Pumas a try.
I have a pair of Vega shoes I got while we still lived in France and love them. I will replace them with the same when they wear out.
They are less bulky than new balance, less athletic looking than other sporty ones, but more substantial than keds
This is the style I have (actually these are maybe the exact same ones). They also come in leather. Mine are just starting to wear out after 5+ years of pretty heavy use

Those veja shoes are super cute!
